MoonPay is expanding the role of AI assistants beyond conversation by allowing users to complete cryptocurrency transactions without leaving a chatbot interface.

The company introduced PayBox, a non-custodial wallet that connects directly to supported AI models through a dedicated integration. Once linked, users can instruct an AI assistant to perform blockchain-related actions, while the chatbot prepares the transaction for approval instead of simply providing information or recommendations.
The platform supports a wide range of activities, including token swaps, staking, online purchases, and travel bookings. It also works with services compatible with Coinbase's x402 payment protocol, enabling AI assistants to initiate payments across participating applications.
For now, PayBox is available with ChatGPT and Claude, while integrations with Gemini and Grok are expected in the coming weeks.
MoonPay says the system was built to ensure AI never gains direct control over customer assets. Transactions still require user authorization, while wallet credentials are protected through multi-party computation (MPC) and trusted execution environments (TEE). Under this architecture, neither the AI assistant nor MoonPay can independently access private keys or approve transfers.
The technology is built on infrastructure acquired through Sodot, a company purchased by MoonPay in 2026. According to the firm, the platform already supports more than 10 million wallets and secures over $50 billion in digital assets.
By combining conversational AI with payment infrastructure, MoonPay is positioning PayBox as a step toward AI agents that can not only recommend products and services but also complete financial transactions on a user's behalf while keeping final authorization under the owner's control.
The launch follows broader efforts to expand blockchain-based payments, including Visa's recently introduced stablecoin payment platform.
